The $20 million investment includes advanced equipment for efficient and precise production. The facility supports defense programs like the Standard Missile and Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System. Local leaders emphasize the expansion's economic benefits and reinforces Huntsville's status as a hub for advanced manufacturing.

The new facility, known as the Advanced Manufacturing Facility – South (AMF-South), spans over 379,000 square feet and specializes in manufacturing inert components for solid rocket motors [1]. The site, equivalent to more than six football fields, is designed to support surging production demands and emerging missile defense needs, including President Donald Trump’s Golden Dome project [2].

L3Harris invested more than $20 million in renovations and equipment to enhance precision and efficiency. The facility features advanced manufacturing tools such as hydraulic presses, autoclaves, tape-wrap systems, and composite machining [1]. The company’s Title III Defense Production Act cooperative agreement with the Department of Defense helped fund additional equipment and tooling purchases [2].

AMF-South is currently supporting programs such as the Standard Missile, Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System, and Javelin. Expansion efforts have already resulted in approximately 40 new jobs, with plans to create more than 100 additional jobs over the next few years [2].

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey commended L3Harris for its commitment to investing in the state’s workforce and fueling growth in the Rocket City. She noted that the opening of this advanced manufacturing facility strengthens Alabama’s role in supporting critical national security programs and brings high-quality jobs to North Alabama [1].

Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle also praised the new facility, highlighting Huntsville’s dynamic business climate centered on workforce and technology. He congratulated L3Harris for being an excellent community partner [2].

L3Harris’ expanded AMF-South facility complements its existing 136,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Facility – North, which opened in 2019. The company expects AMF-South to be fully operational by next month [1].
