Cryptocurrency exchange KuCoin has launched a month-long initiative titled “Anti-Phishing Month,” aimed at improving user awareness and defense mechanisms against phishing attacks. The campaign, which began in August 2025, combines educational content, quizzes, and incentive programs to actively engage users in recognizing and mitigating phishing threats [1]. The initiative is aligned with KuCoin’s broader commitment to its “Security as a Service” principle, positioning user protection as a key factor in the long-term sustainability of the platform [1].
Phishing attacks have seen a sharp rise, particularly in the financial and cryptocurrency sectors. According to the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), there were over 1 million phishing incidents globally in the first quarter of 2025, with more than 30% targeting financial and payment platforms [1]. SMS and email-based phishing remain the most common methods, affecting users in regions including Europe, Asia, and Australia. KuCoin’s campaign seeks to counter these trends by fostering a proactive learning environment where users can continuously improve their ability to detect and respond to phishing attempts in real time.
The campaign’s “Learn + Quiz + Defend” model is designed to be both educational and interactive. Users are encouraged to complete modules on phishing techniques, pass quizzes to reinforce learning, and activate anti-phishing codes within their accounts. These actions contribute to building user confidence and competence in security practices while offering tangible incentives for participation [1]. The initiative underscores a shift from passive security measures to a more active, user-centered approach.
Beyond the campaign, KuCoin has implemented a range of permanent security tools, including an intelligent risk control system that blocks over 5,000 high-risk access attempts daily. Additional protections include real-time end-to-end security alerts and multi-factor authentication (MFA) for critical functions such as login, withdrawals, and API binding [1]. The exchange also maintains a “Security Academy” that offers ongoing educational resources, including case studies and practical tips to help users improve their detection skills.
BC Wong, CEO of KuCoin, emphasized the shared nature of cybersecurity responsibilities, stating that “security should not only be the responsibility of the platform—it should be an ability every user possesses” [1]. This philosophy aligns with KuCoin’s broader goal of fostering a crypto ecosystem where users are not only protected by the platform but also actively contribute to their own and others’ security through continuous self-learning.
KuCoin plans to expand on its combined approach of education and defense in the coming months, reinforcing its commitment to a safer, more transparent trading environment for its global user base [1]. The initiative marks the first time the platform has integrated user education with a reward-based engagement model, setting a potential benchmark for similar security campaigns in the cryptocurrency industry [2]. Analysts have noted that this approach represents a bold step in redefining user protection through gamified learning and real-time defensive mechanisms [3].
KuCoin’s “Anti-Phishing Month” campaign reflects a growing industry recognition that cybersecurity must evolve alongside the sophistication of cyber threats. By prioritizing user education alongside technological safeguards, the exchange is reinforcing a model where security is not only a platform responsibility but also a shared user competency [4].
