KPI Green Energy starts an addl 35 MWP of solar capacity
KPI Green Energy Limited has announced the energization of an additional 35 MWp of solar capacity, increasing its total operational Independent Power Producer (IPP) capacity to 589 MWp as of March 12, 2026. The company remains on track to commission an additional 1,582 MWp, which would expand its IPP portfolio to 2.17 GWp. This growth is supported by long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), including a 25-year agreement with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for its 200 MW/240 MWp Khavda Solar IPP project, which began operations in January 2026 according to reports.
The company has also advanced hybrid renewable projects, such as a 92.15 MWp hybrid facility (16.95 MW wind and 75.2 MWp solar) that achieved grid synchronization ahead of schedule. Additionally, KPI Green is executing a 642 MWp hybrid IPP project and a 275 MWp solar IPP project, both targeting completion by October 2026.
In October 2024, the company entered the utility-scale energy storage sector through its subsidiary, Sun Drops Energia Limited, securing a 445 MW/890 MWh BESS project under a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with GUVNL. This diversification aims to enhance grid stability and integrate renewable generation with storage solutions.
KPI Green's strategic shift to an asset-backed IPP model, supported by long-term PPAs, positions it to generate stable annuity revenue. While operating in a competitive market with larger players like Adani Green Energy and Tata Power, the company focuses on niche growth within India's renewable energy sector. Investors will closely monitor the timely commissioning of its planned capacity and the financial performance of its expanding portfolio.
