Korean Air Lines extend flight suspension to Dubai to March 15 - Newsis
Korean Air has extended the suspension of its Incheon-Dubai route until March 15, citing ongoing airspace restrictions in the Middle East following U.S. and Israeli military strikes on Iran. The airline initially halted flights on February 28 after Dubai Airport closed for safety reasons and returned its KE951 flight mid-journey over Myanmar. The extension reflects persistent geopolitical instability, with several Middle Eastern countries—including Iran, Iraq, and the United Arab Emirates— keeping their airspace closed since the conflict began.
The airline operates daily direct flights between Incheon and Dubai, the only Korean carrier offering seven weekly services on the route. Korean Air advised passengers to monitor schedule changes, as operations remain contingent on regional developments. Meanwhile, Dubai Airport’s closure and passenger restrictions have compounded disruptions, forcing rerouted or canceled flights across the industry.
Globally, the crisis has triggered over 27,000 canceled flights to and from the Middle East since February 28, according to analytics firm Cirium. Major carriers, including Emirates, British Airways, and Lufthansa, have adjusted schedules, while the UAE is establishing limited safe corridors to restore operations. Korean Air’s extended suspension underscores the financial and logistical strain on airlines navigating the crisis, with passengers facing stranded itineraries and higher travel costs according to industry analysis.
The airline did not specify a resumption date but emphasized it would reassess operations based on evolving conditions. Investors are monitoring the broader impact on regional air travel demand and fuel costs amid prolonged uncertainty.
