The Integrated Manufacturing Cluster, the first node of the project, requires 1,710 acres, spread across three parcels in Palakkad district: Pudussery Central, Pudussery West, and Kannambra [1]. The government had earlier sanctioned the acquisition of land in Palakkad for the industrial corridor project, with financial aid from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB) [1].
The managing director of the Kerala Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation (KINFRA), the nodal agency for land acquisition, had requested the government to transfer the remaining land to the special purpose vehicle (SPV) with absolute ownership, free from all encumbrances, and granting of freehold rights to the SPV [1]. Following this request, the government decided to accord sanction to transfer the remaining 1,340 acres to the SPV.
The Industries Minister had previously mentioned that the State government is planning to proceed with the Global City project in Ayyampuzha, despite the Union government withdrawing its support [1].
The project is part of a broader initiative to transform Palakkad into a key industrial and logistics hub for South India. The Palakkad Industrial Smart City project, which aims to secure 81% of the required land, has received full environmental clearances and is set to become a strategic multimodal connectivity hub [2].
The development of the Kochi-Bengaluru industrial corridor is expected to significantly enhance the region's industrial growth, regional development, and global competitiveness [2].
