TIMB --

Vice President Kamala Harris is scheduled to embark on a campaign tour in several key battleground states this Tuesday, where she may make her first appearance with her chosen running mate. During the weekend, Harris reportedly interviewed three potential vice presidential candidates in Washington.

According to Reuters, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, and Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro were interviewed by Harris on the 4th. Prior to this, Harris had a 90-minute conversation with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg on the 2nd and met online with potential running mates such as Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear and Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker.

Harris is expected to announce her choice for running mate as early as the 5th. Then, Harris and her running mate will start a five-day key battleground state campaign tour from Philadelphia in the evening of the 6th. Insiders say that the aforementioned potential candidates will be notified whether they have been selected in the evening of the 5th or the morning of the 6th.

Some media believes that Shapiro and Kelly are top two candidates, while Walz is also considered as a a potential choice because he is favored by the progressive and younger Democratic voters for his attacks on the Republican presidential candidate, former President Donald Trump.

Pennsylvania is considered the most valuable swing state for this year's U.S. presidential election results. Democratic President Joseph Biden won the presidential election four years ago thanks to victories in this state as well as Michigan and Wisconsin.

Media reports say that Harris will campaign in western Wisconsin and Detroit, Michigan, on the 7th, and then in the following days, she will go to Raleigh, North Carolina, Savannah, Georgia, Phoenix, Arizona, and Las Vegas, Nevada.

The U.S. Democratic Party began voting online for the nomination of the presidential candidate on the 1st of this month, and Harris had already secured enough delegate votes to lock in the nomination on the 2nd. After Biden gave up running for re-election, Harris was endorsed by him to become the Democratic presidential candidate and is scheduled to officially accept the presidential nomination at the Democratic National Convention to be held from the 19th to the 22nd.

After taking over the presidential campaign, Harris obtained the endorsement of the United Auto Workers union, which has a certain influence on the election. However, the union chairman, Sean Flynn, said that the United Auto Workers union, with 370,000 members, does not support Kelly or Shapiro as vice presidential candidates. The headquarters of the United Auto Workers union is in Detroit, Michigan.
