Joesley Batista, co-owner of the JBS meat processing giant, traveled to Venezuela to persuade President Nicolas Maduro to resign and allow a peaceful transition of power, following a request from US President Donald Trump. Batista met with Maduro on November 23, but his trip was not sanctioned by the US government. The visit marks another attempt to ease tensions after Trump threatened land attacks on Venezuela and months of lethal attacks against suspected drug trafficking vessels.
