JLT Mobile Computers and Linnaeus University have collaborated to develop an AI-powered solution, Screen Blanking, to improve safety in industrial environments. The application uses AI and machine learning to automatically blank the display of vehicle-mounted computers when the vehicle is moving, restoring it when the vehicle stops. This addresses legal requirements and enhances operational safety in warehouses, logistics hubs, and industrial facilities. The solution has passed internal testing and is now in pilot trials with customers in live forklift operations.
JLT Mobile Computers and Linnaeus University have joined forces to develop an innovative AI-powered solution, Screen Blanking, aimed at enhancing safety in industrial environments. The application leverages artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) to automatically blank the display of vehicle-mounted computers when the vehicle is in motion, restoring the display when the vehicle stops. This solution addresses legal requirements and boosts operational safety in warehouses, logistics hubs, and industrial facilities.
The Screen Blanking function utilizes AI and ML to detect vehicle movement using sensors integrated into JLT Mobile Computers' JLT6012 vehicle-mounted computers. This technology ensures that displays are automatically turned off during transit, minimizing the risk of distracted driving and enhancing compliance with global safety regulations.
Björn Lindenberg, a lecturer in mathematics at Linnaeus University, emphasized the practical application of their research. "It's incredibly valuable to see our work applied to real-world problems," he stated. The collaboration between the academic and industrial sectors has led to a practical innovation that directly improves the safety of industrial environments.
The Screen Blanking application has successfully completed rigorous internal testing and is currently undergoing pilot trials with customers in live forklift operations. This phase will validate the solution's performance in real-world industrial settings and ensure it meets both compliance and safety standards.
Per Holmberg, CEO of JLT Mobile Computers, underscored the significance of integrating AI into their robust computing systems. "By incorporating AI, we help our customers protect their most valuable asset – their employees – while maintaining operational efficiency," he said.
