JD.com, China's largest e-commerce retailer, expressed interest in expanding its business in Malaysia, particularly in the logistics sector. The company plans to buy more Malaysian products to market in China. Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the intention, citing Malaysia's potential as a regional logistics hub and its commitment to becoming a major global semiconductor player.
Leading Chinese e-commerce and logistics retailer JD.com has expressed its intention to expand its business in Malaysia, according to Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The company is particularly interested in the logistics sector, aiming to leverage Malaysia's strategic position to emerge as a regional logistics hub, which could open up more job opportunities for locals [1].
During a four-day working visit to China, Anwar met with JD.com's top management, led by JD Logistics CEO and executive strategy member Hu Wei. JD.com, listed on the Nasdaq 100 and a Fortune Global 500 company, is China's largest e-commerce retailer, serving over 580 million shoppers in China. The company operates the largest order fulfillment infrastructure in China, enabling 90 percent of orders to be shipped the same or next day [1].
In addition to logistics, JD.com plans to buy more Malaysian products to market in China. This initiative aligns with Malaysia's efforts to attract quality investments and explore new opportunities, as outlined by the Madani government [1].
Following the meeting with JD.com, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, held discussions with the leadership of the China Semiconductor Industry Association (CSIA), led by its chairman Chen Nanxiang. Anwar reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to becoming a major global semiconductor player, as outlined in the National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS) [1].
The expansion of JD.com in Malaysia is part of a broader trend of Chinese companies exploring Southeast Asia for growth opportunities. In July 2025, JD.com announced an ambitious “10 Billion Growth Plan” to introduce 1,000 new brands from overseas through cross-border e-commerce over the next three years [2].
