Jati Tinggi JV wins 19.4M MYR contract to build submarine cable
Jati Tinggi JV has secured a contract worth 19.4 million MYR (Malaysian Ringgit) to build a section of the Asia United Gateway East (AUG East) submarine cable system. The project is part of a larger initiative led by Singtel and a consortium of leading telecommunications and tech companies to enhance digital connectivity across East Asia [1].
The AUG East cable system, with a total length of 8,900 km, will connect Singapore and Japan, passing through Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, South Korea, and Taiwan. Expected to be completed by the third quarter of 2029, the high-capacity cable system is designed to meet the growing demand for bandwidth, particularly for AI applications and ultra high-definition video streams [1].
The consortium, chaired by Singtel, includes major players such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, ARTERIA Networks, Chunghwa Telecom, DREAMLINE, Globe Telecom, Telekom Malaysia, and Unified National Networks. NEC Corporation, known for its expertise in submarine cable technology, has been selected as the partner to build this critical infrastructure [1].
Jati Tinggi JV's involvement in the project underscores its capability to contribute to the development of high-capacity digital infrastructure, which is crucial for advancing digital inclusion and economic growth in the region. The contract signifies a significant milestone in the company's expansion into the submarine cable sector, highlighting its potential for future growth and investment opportunities.
