Although the latest AI tools haven't captured everyone's heart just yet, a Wall Street tycoon recently showed strong support.
On Monday, JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon stated in an interview that AI is not just a trend, it's a revolution in and of itself, and it has tremendous potential.
During the interview, Dimon mentioned the internet bubble of the early 21st century, saying that investor excitement seems to have exceeded the actual heat at the time.
However, compared to the current situation triggered by AI, Dimon thinks it's a different story. This is not hype. This is real. When we had the internet bubble the first time around ... that was hype. This is not hype. It's real, Dimon said. He also highlighted that AI will ultimately handle a tremendous amount of stuff.
At present, JPMorgan has already been experimenting with AI technology internally. Last year, the banking institution even established a new position called Chief Data Analyst, which partly involves AI.
Dimon revealed on Monday that JPMorgan Chase currently has 200 people studying the large language models recently introduced by tech companies, in an attempt to integrate AI into all kinds of financial operations.
From risk assessments to customer services, Dimon articulated a vision for the future where the precision and efficiency of AI will completely transform the industry. This optimism is rooted in the substantial progress that AI has made in fields like cybersecurity and fraud detection, areas where the ability of AI to sift through and analyze massive amounts of data in real-time has been proven.
Despite the general worry that AI might be misused for illicit activities, Dimon expressed his optimism for this emerging technology.
Dimon's vision for AI extends beyond the financial sector. He mentioned cybersecurity and pharmaceutical research as key areas where AI can play a role. This is not just about profit margins and market shares; it's about harnessing AI's computational power to address some of humanity's most pressing challenges, Dimon said.
Dimon further stated, It may invent cancer cures because it can do things that the human mind simply cannot do.
