The family of Prakash Joshi, a 61-year-old man from Rajasthan's Jaipur, has requested the Union Government to intensify efforts for his safe release. Joshi was abducted by armed assailants on July 1, 2025, while working as the general manager at a cement factory in Mali. His family has appealed to Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and other leaders to intervene in the matter [1].Joshi's wife, Suman Joshi, stated that he joined the Diamond Cement factory in Mali on June 5 and was last heard from on June 30. She expressed concern about his health, as he mentioned feeling unwell. On July 1, he was abducted by armed assailants from the factory premises. The factory officials informed his daughter, Chitra Joshi, about the incident the next day [2].
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has issued a statement confirming the abduction and is in constant communication with the relevant authorities in Mali, local law enforcement agencies, and the management of the Diamond Cement Factory. The MEA is also in touch with the family members of the abducted Indian nationals [1].
Joshi's family has no information about his location or the demands of the abductors. They have appealed to various leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to intervene and pressurize the Mali government. The family is deeply concerned about Joshi's health, as he is on multiple medications and is a vegetarian [2].
The incident is suspected to be linked to the Al-Qaeda-linked group Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen (JNIM), which claimed responsibility for multiple attacks on July 1. The Mali army retaliated, claiming to have killed over 80 terrorists and foiled the attacks [2].
