Jaguar Land Rover has delayed the launch of its new electric Range Rover model from the end of 2023 to 2024. The company has also pushed back the launch of two other electric models, including the Type 00 concept, due to additional testing and changes in market demand. Despite the delays, JLR remains committed to its goal of offering electric versions of all its luxury brands by 2030.
Title: Jaguar Land Rover Delays Electric Model Launches
Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has announced delays in the launch of its new electric Range Rover model and two other electric models, including the Type 00 concept. The company has cited additional testing and changes in market demand as reasons for the delays. The electric Range Rover, initially planned for late 2025, will now start deliveries in 2024. The Type 00 concept, scheduled for August 2026, may also be delayed by several months. Despite these setbacks, JLR remains committed to its goal of offering electric versions of all its luxury brands by 2030.
JLR has faced challenges in recent months, including a 15.1% drop in sales in the three months to June due to Donald Trump's tariffs and a temporary pause in US exports. The company has also opened a voluntary redundancy scheme for up to 500 managers to save costs. However, sales are expected to improve with the UK’s limited trade deal with the US providing lower tariffs on the first 100,000 exports. JLR has reported a profit for the past 10 consecutive quarters after a turnaround effort.
The delays in the electric model launches are partly due to the need for extended testing, as these are the first electric models to be directly built by the manufacturer. JLR previously sold the electric Jaguar I-Pace, which was built by a contract manufacturer. The start of production for the first electric Jaguar post-rebranding is slated for August 2026, with an expected price above £100,000. The second Jaguar model may not follow until December 2027.
JLR’s slower shift to electric vehicles aligns with the start of production by a battery factory being built by Tata in Somerset. The plant, built by a subsidiary named Agratas, is due to start production in the last quarter of 2027, a year later than initially planned.
