Ireland Considers Importing US Fracked Gas for Emergency LNG Reserve

Ireland is considering importing fracked US gas for its proposed Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) emergency terminal in Co Clare. The Shannon LNG project, due to come on stream in 2030, will operate as an emergency reserve in case of a major disruption to natural gas pipelines from the UK. Ireland is currently in breach of EU law as one of only six EU countries without an emergency gas reserve. The country is seeking a reliable baseload supply during its energy transition period.
