International Paper (IP), a global leader in sustainable packaging, pulp, and paper products, has renewed its commitment to boosting childhood reading by joining Champions for Literacy (formerly Coaching for Literacy) as its signature partner for the ninth consecutive year. This partnership, announced on January 31, 2025, is a testament to IP's ongoing dedication to literacy initiatives and its impact on communities across the United States.

IP's partnership with Champions for Literacy involves recognizing the company as the presenting sponsor of the national program Fight for Literacy Games. Through this program, collegiate sports teams partner with Champions for Literacy to raise awareness and funds for childhood literacy. Funds raised through these games are granted to local partners to support literacy for students from birth through third grade. In prior years, grants have funded tutoring programs, summer learning camps, and the purchase of age-appropriate reading materials for classrooms and students in need.

Over the past nine years, IP has directly provided grant funding to 40 literacy organizations in more than 20 states through its partnership with Champions for Literacy. This season, Champions for Literacy has 88 collegiate athletic teams committed to hosting a Fight for Literacy Game, their largest number of teams to date. IP's continued investment in literacy initiatives has impacted tens of thousands of students and numerous organizations in communities across the United States.

IP's commitment to literacy aligns with its broader corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals and commitment to sustainability. The company's Vision 2030 goals, announced in 2020, outline its commitment to building a better future for people, the planet, and the company. One of the key goals is "Thriving People & Communities," which includes a target to improve the lives of 100 million people by 2030. This goal is supported by a series of leading indicators, including developing diverse talent pools and improving retention, which are directly related to the company's literacy initiatives.

IP's investment in literacy initiatives also fosters a diverse and inclusive workforce, creating more opportunities for innovation and collaboration. By embracing inclusion and diversity, IP is promoting the success of its employees and the communities in which it operates, contributing to a more sustainable and equitable future.

In conclusion, International Paper's commitment to literacy initiatives, as demonstrated by its partnership with Champions for Literacy, is a key component of its broader CSR goals and commitment to sustainability. By supporting literacy programs and promoting a diverse and inclusive workforce, IP is not only improving the lives of millions of people but also fostering a more sustainable and equitable future for all.
