Influencer Amouranth Targeted in Failed Bitcoin Heist
Four teenagers have been arrested and charged in connection with a home invasion and attempted Bitcoin theft targeting Kaitlyn Siragusa, a popular influencer known as Amouranth. The incident occurred at Siragusa's home in Texas earlier this month, where three armed assailants broke into her bedroom, assaulted her with a pistol, and demanded she transfer her digital assets.
Siragusa managed to lead the assailants to another part of her Houston property, where her husband confronted them with a firearm. The robbers fled the scene without successfully stealing any cryptocurrency. Demarcus Morris Jr., 17, Dylan Nesho Campbell, 18, and Bryan Anthony Salazar Guerrero, 19, have been charged with aggravated kidnapping and aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon. A 16-year-old suspect remains unidentified, and two of the teenagers are currently in custody while a third has posted a $100,000 bond.
The incident highlights the growing trend of targeting high-profile individuals for their cryptocurrency holdings. Siragusa had previously posted a picture on X, showing she had 211 BTC in her coinbase wallet, worth approximately $17.6 million at the time. This public display of her digital assets may have attracted the attention of the assailants, who specifically targeted her for the theft.
During the ordeal, Siragusa was on the phone with her husband, who was in a separate part of their property. She described the terrifying experience of being cornered in her room by the armed intruders, who repeatedly demanded to know the location of her crypto. Dramatic footage shows Siragusa leading the gunmen to her husband, supposedly to hand over her hardware wallet. The attackers left empty-handed, with one shouting "I got shot" as they fled on foot.
Siragusa later revealed that the men only managed to take her MacBook, which was later traced to the same hospital where she had been treated for her injuries. She also mentioned that she may have seen the injured assailant while being discharged from the hospital. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with holding large amounts of cryptocurrency and the potential dangers that high-profile individuals face in the digital age.
