Indonesian tech firm GoTo said it respects the ongoing legal process and will cooperate with authorities after reports of a raid at its office related to an investigation into alleged corruption in the education ministry's laptop procurement. The company has not been accused of wrongdoing and is cooperating with the authorities.
Jakarta, July 2, 2025 - Indonesian tech giant GoTo, formerly known as Gojek Tokopedia, is under investigation following reports of a raid at its office by the Attorney General's Office (AGO). The raid, conducted on July 8, 2025, is part of an ongoing probe into alleged corruption in the education ministry's Chromebook procurement process between 2019 and 2022 [1].The investigation centers on the procurement of Chromebooks by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology. The total budget for this procurement was Rp9.9 trillion, with Rp6.3 trillion coming from the Special Allocation Fund [1]. The AGO suspects that the assessment process was manipulated, leading to the selection of Chromebooks over Windows laptops, which were initially favored due to their offline capabilities [1].
GoTo has expressed its respect for the ongoing legal process and stated that it will cooperate with authorities. The company has not been accused of any wrongdoing but is actively participating in the investigation [2]. The raid was conducted at GoTo's office and the homes of former staff members of Nadiem Makarim, the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, and Ibrahim Arif, a former consultant to the ministry [1].
So far, around 40 witnesses have been questioned, including Nadiem, Fiona Handayani, and Ibrahim Arif. No official suspects have been named, and the investigation is ongoing [1]. The seized evidence is currently being counted and verified by the AGO [1].
Investors and financial professionals should closely monitor this development as it could potentially impact GoTo's operations and reputation. The company's commitment to cooperation with authorities is a positive sign, but the outcome of the investigation remains uncertain.
