Illumina's sustainability efforts include an 80% reduction in packaging since 2019 and maintaining 100% renewable electricity consumption globally for the third consecutive year. The company's latest innovation, the MiSeq i100 Series sequencer, features 85% less packaging and a 35% lower carbon footprint compared to the original system [1].
TIME evaluated thousands of companies worldwide to compile the list, with Illumina ranking second overall in the United States and third in the global Pharmaceuticals & Biotechnology Industry category. The selection was based on more than 20 key performance indicators related to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices [1].
For the Best Companies to Work For list, U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 5000 leading companies across six metrics, including quality of pay and benefits, work-life balance and flexibility, job and company stability, physical and psychological comfort, belonging and esteem, and career opportunities and professional development [1].
Pat Leckman, chief people officer of Illumina, commented on the awards, "At Illumina, we work tirelessly to improve human health. It's a mindset that extends to everything we do. We question, we discover, we act. Whether solving for everyday challenges or the most pressing problems in genomics, everyone on our team looks beyond the obvious to find a new way – from scientific breakthrough to protecting the planet. When you continuously turn ideas into innovations, the possibilities are everywhere, and the future is what you make it."
These recognitions come on the heels of Illumina's latest Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) report, which is available on the company's CSR website [1].
