IDF Conducts Aerial Strikes Targeting Iran’s Ballistic Missile Infrastructure
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has launched extensive airstrikes targeting Iran’s ballistic missile array as part of a coordinated military operation with the United States to neutralize perceived existential threats. According to IDF statements, the strikes focused on degrading Iran’s capacity to retaliate, with attacks directed at missile launchers, storage facilities, and associated infrastructure in western Iran. The IDF previously targeted similar sites during the June 2025 conflict, destroying approximately one-third of Iran’s missile launchers and 35% of its ballistic missile stockpile, though Iran has reportedly reconstituted parts of its arsenal.
Unconfirmed reports suggest additional strikes on Iranian naval assets, including the IRGC Navy frigate Jamaran and the Imam Ali Navy Base in Chabahar, though verification remains pending. The IDF emphasized that these actions aim to disrupt Iran’s ability to launch large-scale missile barrages, which have historically posed risks to regional stability and civilian infrastructure.
Iran has responded with a barrage of ballistic missiles and drones, targeting Israel and U.S. military bases across the Gulf, including locations in Bahrain, Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia. As of February 28, Iranian forces reported launching approximately 170 missiles, with air defense systems intercepting many projectiles. The attacks have already disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy transit route, raising concerns about potential spikes in oil prices and broader economic ripple effects.
Experts note that the IDF’s focus on missile infrastructure reflects a strategic effort to limit Iran’s asymmetric warfare capabilities. However, the long-term effectiveness of these strikes remains uncertain, as Iran’s military and proxy networks may adapt to sustained pressure. Analysts also highlight the risk of prolonged conflict, which could strain regional economies and complicate global energy markets.
The IDF has not disclosed the full scale of damage to Iran’s missile systems, and ongoing assessments will be critical in determining the operation’s success in achieving its stated objectives of deterring Iranian aggression and safeguarding regional security.
