On June 10, 2025, IBM's trading volume reached $1.422 billion, ranking 39th in the day's market.
(IBM) rose by 1.53%, marking its eighth consecutive day of gains, with an 8-day increase of 6.78%.IBM has unveiled an ambitious roadmap to develop the world's first large-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer by 2029. This groundbreaking initiative, known as IBM Quantum Starling, is set to be constructed in a new IBM Quantum Data Center in Poughkeepsie, New York. The Starling quantum computer is expected to perform 20,000 times more operations than current quantum computers, requiring the memory of more than an octillion of the world’s most powerful supercomputers. This advancement will enable users to explore the full complexity and richness of quantum states, far exceeding the capabilities of today's quantum computers.
IBM's new Quantum Roadmap outlines key technology milestones, including the development of IBM Quantum Loon in 2025, which will test architectural components for error correction. Following this, IBM Quantum Kookaburra in 2026 will be the first modular processor designed to store and process encrypted information, combining quantum memory with logical operations. In 2027, IBM Quantum Cockatoo will interleave two Kookaburra modules, connecting quantum chips together to form a larger system. These developments are expected to culminate in the launch of IBM Quantum Starling in 2029.
IBM's commitment to quantum computing is driven by its expertise in mathematics, physics, and engineering. The company aims to solve real-world challenges and open up new business opportunities through highly scalable, fault-tolerant quantum computing. This technology has the potential to revolutionize fields such as drug discovery, materials research, chemistry, and optimization, saving time and money in these areas. IBM's roadmap includes the development of logical qubits, which are units of an error-corrected quantum computer tasked with storing quantum information. These logical qubits will enable the execution of complex quantum circuits with fewer physical qubits, making quantum computing more efficient and scalable.
