Two humpback whales have been spotted swimming under Melbourne's West Gate Bridge, a rare sighting in living memory. The whales, first seen on Tuesday, were captured on Ports Victoria's traffic cameras. Whale research officer David Donnelly notes that while it's not uncommon for whales to visit the top end of Port Phillip Bay, this sighting is unusual. The whales are believed to have been in the bay since Sunday and may return next year. Melburnians can report whale sightings to the Dolphin Research Institute via the PodWatch platform.
