Katrina Qian lost almost $50,000 to scammers who accessed her HSBC account. Despite the bank's initial refusal to compensate her, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority ruled in her favor. HSBC has since offered Qian a $9500 "goodwill" payment, but she feels the bank has failed her and the justice system. Reported scam losses have increased by 30% in the first five months of this year.
