Hourly Market Review - Mar 13, 2024 11 AM

On Wednesday, the S&P 500 experienced a slight decline of 0.1%, retracting from its record high achieved in the previous session, influenced by Nvidia's slowdown from its strong rally at the beginning of 2024. The Nasdaq Composite also saw a decrease, slipping 0.4%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average moved in the opposite direction, gaining 172 points or 0.4%. Notably, Nvidia's shares dropped by more than 2%, with Meta and Apple also witnessing slight declines. The technology sector within the S&P 500 was particularly affected, recording a drop of over 1%. Additionally, the VanEck Semiconductor ETF (SMH) decreased by 2%, marking its third loss in four sessions.
This market movement comes after a successful session for Wall Street, where both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq saw gains of more than 1% on Tuesday, following the release of U.S. inflation data for February that aligned with expectations. However, core inflation, excluding food and energy, saw a higher-than-anticipated increase last month.
