A study at MIT found that students who used ChatGPT to write SAT-style essays demonstrated lower brain activity, including fewer connections and lower alpha and theta connectivity, compared to those who wrote without AI or with Google Search. The AI-generated texts also converged on common words and ideas, leading to homogenized responses. The study suggests that relying on AI for tasks may have a cognitive cost and limit divergent opinions.
