Holonym Acquires Gitcoin Passport: Birth of World's Largest Privacy-Focused Digital Identity Solution

Holonym Foundation, a leading provider of privacy-focused digital identity solutions, has acquired Gitcoin Passport, a prominent blockchain-based reputation platform. The acquisition aims to create the world's largest Proof of Humanity solution, rebranding Gitcoin Passport as Human Passport and integrating Holonym's Human Key technology to enhance privacy-preserving digital identity.
Through this deal, Holonym's product suite, human.tech, will issue 34.5 million zero-knowledge credentials to Gitcoin Passport's two million users. This will result in over three times the identity proofs of Worldcoin, solidifying Holonym's position as the Sybil detection and decentralized reputation leader.
Holonym CEO Shady El Damaty emphasized the importance of privacy-focused digital identity in today's online interactions. He views the integration of Gitcoin Passport into human.tech as a significant step towards digital human rights and the strengthening of self-sovereign identity concepts.
Gitcoin Passport Founder Kevin Owocki welcomed the transformation, attributing the acquisition to a doubling down on the mission to create an identity layer based on privacy, trust, and decentralization. He believes that the Human Passport will give users more rights over their data while sustaining verifiable trust in Web3 interactions.
Gitcoin Passport has been at the forefront of the blockchain ecosystem, providing reputation tools to over 110 partners and locking up over $200 million in airdrops. Its Proof of Humanity Score has been instrumental in mitigating Sybil attacks, token allocations, and supporting self-sovereign identity systems.
Together with human.tech, the new Human Passport will introduce new zero-knowledge features to enhance composite on-chain reputation. By connecting Holonym's Human network with the identity blockchain of Gitcoin Passport, Web3 users will have a single identity that is trusted yet respects their privacy.
The Holonym Foundation is committed to securing human digital rights, with a focus on data control, protection, and privacy. Holonym builds security and monetary communication services around the construct of a digital persona based on cryptographic trust. Its ultimate goal is to create a better and more just online world by aligning technology with fundamental human values and ensuring that technological progress respects and upholds these core principles.
