Himax Technologies and Vuzix Corporation have announced a new optical reference design for augmented reality (AR) glasses. The design combines Himax's ultra-compact color sequential microdisplay with Vuzix's high-efficiency waveguide technology. The reference design supports configurations from a 30° field of view to over 1000 nits of brightness in a compact and power-efficient architecture. The design is showcased at CES 2026.
