JDG Trading, a credit provider, has been ruled against by the Johannesburg high court for offering insurance to social grant beneficiaries that exploited them. The court declared it unreasonable to offer disability and retrenchment insurance to disabled or unemployed clients. JDG Trading's insurance bundle included cover for disability and retrenchment, but many clients were already disabled or unemployed. The court found this infringed on the constitutional right to social assistance.
