Hex Trust, a leading digital asset institution offering custody, staking, and market services, has announced the integration of Etherlink—a high-performance, EVM-compatible Layer 2 network built on Tezos—to expand its institutional-grade custody solutions. As part of this development, Hex Trust now supports xU3O8, a tokenized uranium asset listed across multiple exchanges. This move marks a significant step in the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA), offering institutional clients a regulated and compliant way to hold and manage uranium-backed digital assets [1].
The integration is backed by Trilitech, a core development team behind Etherlink and the
platform, which is collaborating with Hex Trust to provide secure custody for xU3O8 and other Etherlink-based assets. According to Trilitech’s Head of Commercial Applications, Ben Elvidge, uranium is an ideal candidate for tokenization due to its limited accessibility for most investors and existing pricing inefficiencies in the traditional market [1]. By leveraging blockchain infrastructure, these challenges can be mitigated, and regulated custodians like Hex Trust facilitate easier institutional participation in tokenized commodities.Hex Trust’s custody offering for xU3O8 is positioned to meet the growing institutional interest in tokenized commodities as more real-world assets transition to on-chain structures. Giorgia Pellizzari, Head of Custody at Hex Trust, highlighted the firm’s commitment to delivering secure and regulated custody solutions that support the evolving landscape of blockchain-based real-world assets [4]. The integration aligns with Hex Trust’s broader strategy to build institutional-grade infrastructure that bridges traditional finance and digital asset ecosystems.
The xU3O8 token is backed by physical uranium (U3O8), the refined form of uranium, and is supported by Curzon, a global uranium trading company, and Archax, the first registered digital securities crypto exchange in the UK [1]. Etherlink, which enables this tokenization, operates as a non-custodial, EVM-compatible Layer 2 solution built on Tezos Smart Rollups, providing high-performance capabilities for real-world asset settlement. The token is listed on multiple exchanges, making it one of the most accessible examples of tokenized commodities available today [2].
Hex Trust’s expansion into tokenized uranium custody reinforces the growing trend of institutional adoption in the real-world asset tokenization space. As traditional assets become increasingly digitized and accessible through blockchain platforms, the role of regulated custodians like Hex Trust becomes more critical in maintaining trust, compliance, and security. The firm holds licenses in key global financial hubs, including Hong Kong, Singapore, Dubai, and Italy, and continues to develop secure and compliant infrastructure for tokenization, custody, and execution [3].
This development positions Hex Trust as a key player in enabling institutional access to tokenized real-world assets. With its global regulatory presence and institutional-grade services, the firm is well-placed to support the ongoing evolution of digital asset infrastructure and the broader adoption of tokenized commodities in institutional portfolios [5].
