Here Are What You Need To Know About Musk's Upcoming 'Grok 3'
Elon Musk is gearing up to take on the global tech industry in the latest "AI showdown".
On Sunday, the billionaire announced on his social media platform X that Grok 3 would be unveiled at 8 PM Pacific Time on Monday, February 17, with a live demonstration. Musk even touted Grok 3 as the smartest AI on Earth.
Last week, during a video call at the World Government Summit in Dubai, Musk mentioned that xAI was still a week or two from releasing the new product to ensure the best user experience, as he didn't want to be hasty. However, it now appears that Musk has decided to launch Grok 3 ahead of schedule. He wrote on X that he spent the entire weekend refining the product with his team.
What Could Make Grok 3 The 'Smartest AI On Earth'?
Last week, Musk revealed that Grok 3 had "outperformed anything that's been released" in testing, adding that he believed the technology was scary smart. He explained that the bot was trained on synthetic data and could review its mistakes by repeatedly checking the data to achieve logical consistency.
"So if it's got data that is wrong, it'll actually reflect upon that and remove the data that is wrong, he said. "Its base reasoning is very good," Musk said.
Musk also made bold claims, stating he is confident that Grok 3 will be stronger than any other AI, and it is very likely that there won't be a stronger product than the Grok series.
xAI's Recent AI Developments
Although xAI is not a major player in the AI market, the buzz around Grok 3 is significant, thanks to Musk's fame and his ongoing feud with OpenAI.
Musk's AI venture, xAI, was established in 2023 with the goal of competing head-to-head with OpenAI. Musk co-founded OpenAI with Sam Altman in 2015 but left the company in 2018 due to disagreements over its direction. Since then, Musk has been critical of Altman and OpenAI's shift from a non-profit to a for-profit model.
After founding xAI, Musk released the Grok and Grok 1.5 models within six months. In August 2024, the company launched the Grok 2 language model, and in December, xAI announced that it would offer the new Grok-2 model for free to all users on the X platform, previously available only to Premium Plus subscribers.
Reports also suggest that the company is developing a dedicated app for Grok, meaning users won't need to rely on X to access the AI model.
