Helium,AT&T Partner to Expand Network Coverage

Helium, a decentralized wireless network powered by Solana, has announced a significant collaboration with at&t. This partnership aims to provide AT&T subscribers with access to Helium's network of mobile hotspots, enhancing their connectivity options. The collaboration will enable AT&T members to benefit from expanded network coverage through Helium’s community-operated network. Additionally, AT&T will receive a set of “coverage quality metrics” developed by Helium to improve network performance.

Amir Haleem, co-founder of Helium and CEO of Nova Labs, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “Working with AT&T is a massive step forward in our mission to bring affordable and accessible connectivity to the masses. Teaming up with such a global leader in the industry allows us to rapidly accelerate the adoption of Helium and provide real-world value to both AT&T and their subscribers.”

Helium’s network is unique in that it is operated by individuals and businesses who deploy hotspots. These hotspots earn users rewards via Helium’s Solana-based token for participating in the network and providing coverage to nearby devices. With AT&T’s extensive subscriber base, Helium hotspot owners stand to gain significantly from the increased traffic and rewards generated by AT&T subscribers connecting to their hotspots.

AT&T, with its vast number of mobile subscribers, will utilize Helium’s hotspots to extend its network coverage, particularly in underserved or rural areas. This collaboration is structured as an ongoing effort, with the goal of expanding partnerships with carriers both in the U.S. and globally. AT&T views Helium Network as a means to enhance network efficiency and provide more Wi-Fi locations for its users, ensuring seamless connectivity on the go.

This collaboration is not Helium’s first with a major telecom company. Previously, Helium Mobile, a wireless cellular service built on the Helium network, partnered with Telefónica to deploy mobile hotspots in Mexico City and Oaxaca. This partnership allowed Telefónica to extend its coverage in Mexico and provide Helium network access to over 2.3 million Movistar subscribers. Additionally, Helium Mobile launched its “Zero Plan,” offering 3GB of data, 300 texts, and 100 minutes of talk time per month with zero charge, partially powered by T-Mobile’s 5G nationwide service.

Helium’s recent legal victory, where the SEC dismissed its case against Helium, further solidifies its position in the market. The dismissal established that Helium’s token and crypto-incentivized hotspots are not securities, providing a clear regulatory path forward for the company. This collaboration with AT&T is expected to further accelerate the adoption of Helium’s decentralized network, benefiting both Helium hotspot owners and AT&T subscribers alike.
