Health Canada, the Canadian federal department responsible for regulating and promoting the country's health and food, has recently issued a recall notice for over 12,000 Maison Lavande candles [1]. The candles, sold between May and November 2021, have been identified as potential fire hazards due to their tendency to reach abnormally high flames.

The recall affects specific Revive-brand scented three-wick soy candles that come in ceramic containers with decorative metal lids. The "Winter Cedar" and "Warm Spiced Latte" candles, in particular, have been found to be excessively flammable [1]. This issue can pose significant fire and burn hazards to consumers.

According to the U.S.-based manufacturer, Melaleuca, 3,103 units of the affected candles were sold in Canada during the recall period [1]. Consumers who own these products are advised to stop using them immediately and dispose of them safely. To ensure safety, cut all three wicks as short as possible and then throw the candle in the garbage.

No injuries or damages have been reported in connection with these candles as of December 11, 2021 [1]. However, Health Canada urges consumers to take precautions to prevent potential accidents.

The recall process is guided by Health Canada's Compliance and Enforcement Directorate, which oversees the recall of drugs, natural health products, and other consumer goods [3]. Establishments in the distribution chain are responsible for maintaining systems that support recall effectiveness and notifying Health Canada about the recall action. Consignees, in turn, are responsible for cooperating with Health Canada and ensuring that the recalled products are removed from the market.
