According to Trade Winds, Evergreen Marine initiated a bidding process for 2,400 TEU methanol dual-fuel powered feeder container ships and is seeking to order six newbuildings, with a delivery schedule in 2027. This latest order follows Evergreen Marine's previous commitment to invest over $10 billion in new shipbuilding since 2021. [1]
Hanhwa Ocean Co. Ltd., a subsidiary of South Korea's Hanhwa Group, operates in the shipbuilding and marine industries. The company has segments including commercial ships, offshore and special ships, and other businesses. [2]
Evergreen Marine's recent shipbuilding orders have been concentrated among a few shipbuilders. According to incomplete statistics, Evergreen Marine has placed a total of 82 container ship orders since 2021, with the majority going to China State Shipbuilding Corporation's Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding, Samsung Heavy Industries, and Japan Shipbuilding. [1]
Hanhwa Ocean Co. Ltd. is not yet the favored shipbuilder for Evergreen Marine, but given the liner giant's past signing tradition, CSSC Huangpu-Wenchong Shipbuilding, which has received several methanol dual-fuel powered feeder container ship orders from Evergreen Marine in recent years, may continue to be the preferred choice. [1]
Methanol dual-fuel powered feeder container ships have become the primary type of vessels received by CSSC Huangpu-Wenchong Shipbuilding in the container ship segment. In 2023 alone, the shipbuilder received 23+4 such vessels. [3]
