Rep. Keith Ammon, a state representative from New Hampshire, has emerged as a prominent advocate for Bitcoin within the state's legislature. On Tuesday, he addressed the New Hampshire House Ways and Means Committee regarding House Bill (HB) 302, which aims to permit the state’s treasurer to invest in Bitcoin. Ammon's advocacy is driven by concerns over the United States' excessive debt and the potential for Bitcoin to mitigate the effects of inflation.
Ammon's journey with Bitcoin began in 2011 when he attended an event called the Liberty Forum, organized by the Free State Project. During this event, he encountered a group of anarchists who introduced him to the precursor of Ripple, RipplePay. Although he did not fully grasp the concept at the time, he kept in touch with the group and later discovered Bitcoin. Ammon's background in software development and his early exposure to financial literature, such as "The Creature From Jekyll Island," helped him quickly understand the significance of Bitcoin.
Since then, Ammon has been actively promoting Bitcoin within the New Hampshire legislature. He is the founder of the New Hampshire Blockchain Council and the lead sponsor of three current Bitcoin- and crypto-related bills. Despite initial resistance and lack of understanding, Ammon has persisted in his efforts, and Bitcoin has gradually gained more acceptance within the legislature. He believes that Bitcoin offers a solution to the national debt crisis and can protect personal sovereignty and wealth.
Ammon's efforts have not been without challenges. He has faced skepticism and pushback, particularly from those who view Bitcoin as a tool for criminals or as environmentally harmful. However, he remains optimistic about the future of Bitcoin in New Hampshire. He believes that the state's legislature is becoming more receptive to the idea of a Bitcoin reserve, especially as other states begin to explore similar options. Ammon also emphasizes the importance of financial privacy and supports the use of crypto mixers to protect individuals' financial information.
Ammon's advocacy for Bitcoin is driven by a deep understanding of its potential and a commitment to promoting sound money policies. He believes that Bitcoin offers a solution to the national debt crisis and can protect personal sovereignty and wealth. Despite the challenges he has faced, Ammon remains optimistic about the future of Bitcoin in New Hampshire and is committed to continuing his advocacy efforts.
