Hamas confirms death of Mohammed Sinwar, three months after deadly IDF strike - yahoo
The Hamas terror group has officially confirmed the death of its Gaza military chief, Mohammed Sinwar, nearly three months after Israel reported killing him in a strike in May. The confirmation came in a new propaganda video released by Hamas on August 30, 2025, which also features other former senior officials who have since been killed by Israel.
Mohammed Sinwar was the younger brother of Yahya Sinwar, the former leader of Hamas who co-masterminded the October 7, 2023, attack on Israel. Yahya Sinwar was killed in combat a year later. Following Israel’s killing of Yahya last October, Mohammed Sinwar became the de facto leader of the terror group in Gaza.
The video, which is over three minutes in length, opens with a clip of the former head of Hamas’s military wing, Muhammad Deif, talking about Hamas’s fight against the “tyrants” of Israel, with mournful music playing in the background. The video features several clips of rocket fire on Israel, the October 7 invasion, military parades, and other snippets of Hamas propaganda footage. Among the clips is a brief snippet of what appears to be a meeting between several former Hamas leaders, including Hamas politburo leader Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar, and the deputy commander of Hamas’s military wing, Marwan Issa.
Sinwar, Issa, and Deif were all killed in IDF operations in 2024, while Haniyeh was killed in Iran. The video also includes what appears to be at least one AI-generated image.
The Israel Air Force initially hesitated to launch the strike in May due to the fear of killing hostages close to the former Hamas leader. However, the operation went ahead when intelligence confirmed that no captives were nearby.
The video is part of Hamas's ongoing propaganda efforts to boost morale and maintain its narrative of resistance against Israel. The release of such videos comes amid ongoing tensions and conflicts in the region.
