Guo: China repeats it opposes 'smears’ on hacking allegations

Beijing has once again refuted allegations of hacking and espionage, maintaining that it opposes all forms of cyberattacks. The Chinese embassy in Singapore issued a statement on July 21, 2025, denying any link between China and the espionage group UNC3886, which has been accused of attacking Singapore's critical infrastructure [1].

In the Facebook post, the embassy stated that the claims were "groundless smears and accusations." The statement emphasized that China is firmly against and cracks down on all forms of cyberattacks in accordance with the law, and it does not encourage, support, or condone hacking activities [1].

The Singapore minister had previously indicated that UNC3886 was targeting high-value strategic threat targets and vital infrastructure but did not link the group to China [1]. However, Google-owned cybersecurity firm Mandiant has described UNC3886 as a "China-nexus espionage group" that has attacked defense, technology, and telecommunications organizations in the United States and Asia [1].

China has consistently denied any allegations of cyberespionage, claiming that it opposes all forms of cyberattacks and is itself a victim of such threats [1].
