Guelph, Ontario - A multi-jurisdictional drug investigation led to the arrest of seven individuals from Cambridge and Guelph, Ontario, and the seizure of approximately $28,000 worth of illicit drugs, two firearms, and various other weapons. The investigation, which began in the spring, involved the Guelph Police Service, Waterloo Regional Police Service, and Brantford Police Service.

According to a news release from the Guelph Police Service, the investigation focused on controlled substances such as fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and oxycodone. Alongside the drugs, two firearms, prohibited knives, brass knuckles, bear spray, a conducted energy weapon, and $5,800 in cash were seized. Additionally, about $20,000 worth of suspected stolen property, including bicycles, appliances, and tools, was recovered.

The suspects are now facing numerous charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking, possessing prohibited weapons, and possessing stolen property. All suspects were held for bail hearings.

The investigation began with one suspect from Cambridge believed to be trafficking controlled substances in the Guelph and Cambridge areas. As the investigation progressed, additional individuals and locations became persons of interest. The multi-jurisdictional nature of the investigation allowed for a more comprehensive approach, with support from the tactical units of the Waterloo Regional Police Service and Brantford Police Service.

Guelph Police Chief Gord Cobey expressed hope that the investigation would serve as a deterrent to potential criminals. "Individuals who seek to profit from illegal activities and jeopardize the safety of our residents should expect that the Guelph Police Service and our policing partners will pursue and hold them accountable for their actions," Cobey stated.

The arrests and seizures come amidst a broader national effort to combat drug trafficking. The Department of Justice reported that the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) has seized over 44 million fentanyl pills, 4,500 pounds of fentanyl powder, nearly 65,000 pounds of methamphetamine, and more than 201,500 pounds of cocaine since President Donald Trump's inauguration. The DEA has also made more than 2,105 fentanyl-related arrests.
