Granite gets $495M in tactical infrastructure work
Granite Construction (NYSE: GVA) has secured a significant portfolio of federal infrastructure contracts, totaling approximately $495 million, aimed at enhancing tactical capabilities across multiple U.S. military installations. The largest component of this award involves a heavy-duty paving contract valued at $495 million for Navy installations spanning six states, a project designed to support critical logistical and operational needs.
In addition to the paving agreement, the company has been awarded a $158 million contract to construct Phase 1 of the Enhanced Air and Missile Defense project in South Finegayan, Guam. Executed through a joint venture with Obayashi Corporation, this initiative involves extensive earthwork, underground duct banking, and the construction of essential support facilities on a 120-acre site. Construction for the Guam project commenced in early 2026 and is scheduled for completion by July 2028.
Furthermore, Granite received a $71 million contract from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to expand and modernize the rail yard at Fort Bliss, Texas. This project, funded by federal sources, includes the addition of new loading spurs and a secondary connection to the Union Pacific Railroad to improve operational efficiency. Work on the Fort Bliss expansion is expected to begin in February 2025 and conclude in June 2027.
These awards collectively underscore Granite's continued role in delivering large-scale civil construction for national defense. The projects are expected to contribute to the company's backlog and revenue streams over the coming years, reflecting sustained demand for military infrastructure modernization in the Indo-Pacific and domestic regions.
