GoPro, Inc. (NASDAQ: GPRO) has announced a new opt-in program that allows U.S. subscribers to monetize their GoPro cloud-based video content by making it available to help train AI models. The initiative, which was officially announced on July 30, 2025, is designed to leverage the vast amount of high-quality video content generated by GoPro users to enhance the performance and accuracy of AI models.
Under the program, GoPro subscribers can choose to opt-in and license their user-generated content (UGC) to leading technology companies. In return, subscribers will earn 50% of the license revenue that GoPro expects to generate on their behalf. Participation in the program is entirely voluntary, and no action is required from those who choose not to join. Their content will not be included in the program if they do not opt-in.
Nicholas Woodman, GoPro's founder and CEO, expressed excitement about the program, stating, "The GoPro community is one of the most prolific groups of documentarians in the world, and we're excited to help them monetize the growing demand for authentic, real-world video to train AI models."
The program is set to launch by invitation-only in early August and will gradually expand to all U.S. subscribers over time. The vast data lake of GoPro subscribers, containing over 450 petabytes of cloud-based, high-quality video content captured across a wide range of experiences and environments, represents a valuable opportunity for AI developers to train their models with a rich and varied dataset.
The AI Training program not only empowers GoPro's community to participate in the advancement of AI video technology but also offers a new revenue stream for subscribers. The program is part of GoPro's ongoing efforts to leverage its extensive user-generated content to drive innovation and growth.
