Google's Veo2 AI Video Pricing: A Costly Curiosity at $1,800 Per Hour
Google has quietly unveiled the pricing details for its video-generating AI model, Veo2, which garnered attention since its initial disclosure in December. According to Google's pricing page, Veo2 costs 50 cents per second, translating to $30 per minute and a staggering $1,800 per hour for video generation.
Jon Barron, a researcher at Google DeepMind, offered an intriguing comparison of this pricing model by citing the highly anticipated Marvel movie, "Avengers: Endgame," whose production budget was a whopping $356 million, equating to about $32,000 per second.
It's important to note that users are unlikely to consume every second of a Veo-generated video they pay for. Additionally, Veo2 is not expected to create three-hour epic films like "Avengers" immediately. When announcing Veo2, Google highlighted its capability to generate short videos of two or more minutes, allowing users to obtain high-quality video content in shorter spans.
OpenAI recently introduced its video-generating model, Sora, which requires subscribers to pay $200 monthly for access via the ChatGPT professional version. This pricing positions Veo2 as a competitive alternative in the market.
