Google has rolled out a four-color glow for its Gemini overlay on Android, replacing the previous blue-purple palette. The new design features red, yellow, green, and blue, with light blue being the dominant color. The update is now available for stable users on Google app 16.30. The only exception is the Recents multitasking menu, where the old icon is still present due to the app powering the experience.

Google has recently rolled out a significant visual update to its Gemini overlay on Android, replacing the previous blue-purple palette with a vibrant four-color scheme. The new design features red, yellow, green, and blue, with light blue as the dominant color. This update is now available for stable users on Google app version 16.30 [1].

The rollout began in late June with the introduction of the four-color icon on both Android and iOS apps. As part of this change, the "Hello" greeting on the homepage was updated to be blue, which is Gemini’s primary accent color today. The website also underwent a refresh, softening the sparkle icon. The new overlay activated by swiping up from the bottom-left/right corners or long-pressing the power button started rolling out in early July and is now available to stable users [1].

The new palette is more vibrant than the previous design, with some adjustments depending on whether the user's device has the system light or dark theme. The only exception to the new design is the Recents multitasking menu, where the old icon is still present. This is due to how the Google app powers the actual experience, with "Google Gemini" from the Play Store responsible only for the homescreen icon, widget, and system Share sheet targets [1].

The changes come as part of a broader push by Google to enhance its AI capabilities and user experience across its devices. In addition to the visual update, Google has also been testing AI Mode on Android tablets, which allows users to access Gemini-powered AI search tools, image uploads, and Google Lens integration on larger screens. This feature is currently being tested on the Pixel Tablet and is expected to bring tablets closer in parity with Android phones in terms of AI capabilities [3].

As Google continues to innovate and expand its AI offerings, the updates to the Gemini overlay and the introduction of AI Mode on Android tablets signal a broader strategy to unify its AI capabilities across all Android form factors. These updates are likely to enhance the user experience and attract more users to the Google ecosystem, potentially driving revenue growth for the company.
