This move is anticipated to accelerate the deployment of Google’s AI across federal sectors.
This month also saw Google completing the open-preview phase of its AI programming tool Jules. Publicly introduced in May, Jules harnesses Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro model, providing a distinctive asynchronous programming experience for developers. The tool's integration with GitHub allows developers to clone repositories onto Google Cloud virtual machines, streamlining automated code updates and repairs.
Google Labs' product director, Kathy Korevec, revealed that Jules underwent hundreds of updates in its interface and quality during its testing phase. The final version introduces a new pricing structure based on user data collected over the trial period. The entry-level free version now limits usage to 15 daily tasks and three concurrent tasks. Subscription options under Google AI Pro and Ultra plans, priced at $19.99 and $124.99 monthly respectively, expand these limits significantly. Korevec emphasized that the restructured pricing will help users evaluate whether Jules meets their project requirements efficiently.
In response to user feedback, Google improved Jules' privacy policy, particularly concerning AI training data utilization. Public repositories may provide data for training, while private code remains secure. During the testing period, Jules facilitated thousands of developers in task completion, offering over 140,000 improvements in shared code.
Jules differentiates itself from other AI programming tools through its asynchronous mechanism, operating independently without requiring real-time user oversight. It also introduces features such as automatic Pull Requests and Environment Snapshots to enhance task execution consistency.
Korevec noted that Jules primarily attracts AI enthusiasts and professional developers. Market intelligence firm
reported 2.28 million visits globally since its testing phase began, with significant interest from India, the U.S., and Vietnam. The tool also witnessed a significant proportion of traffic from mobile devices, an area Google is exploring for more optimizations.Internally, Google is adopting Jules in various projects, accelerating its use across the organization. Initially requiring an existing codebase, Jules’ recent update permits new users to start projects from scratch, broadening its accessibility and appeal.
