Google Fi device protection has switched providers to Asurion, offering up to two loss, theft, or physical damage claims within a 12-month period. This is an improvement from the previous one claim limit. The monthly charge for device protection varies by device, with a maximum of $15 for Pixel 9 Pro Fold and $14 for Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra.

Google Fi, a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) by Google, has recently updated its device protection policy, switching to Asurion as the primary provider. This change offers enhanced coverage, including up to two loss, theft, or physical damage claims within a 12-month period, a notable improvement from the previous limit of one claim. The monthly charges for device protection vary by device, with the highest cost being $15 for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold and $14 for the Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra [1].

Asurion's Google Fi device protection now covers accidental damage, mechanical breakdowns, and loss, theft, or physical damage. Accidental damage claims include drops, spills, and cracked screens, while mechanical breakdowns are covered for as long as the device is enrolled. The policy also includes a replacement device option, with new or reconditioned devices of like kind and quality provided. Cracked screen repairs are completed at authorized repair partners, with the inner screens of foldable devices not eligible for repair but instead covered under the replacement policy [1].

The cost structure for device protection varies by device, with monthly charges ranging from $4 to $15. Additionally, a service fee or deductible applies to approved claims that result in repairs or replacements. For example, the Google Pixel Watch 3 LTE (41mm) has a monthly charge of $29, with a service fee of $49 for replacement [1].

Google Fi has made these changes effective as of July 14, 2025, with most users benefiting from Asurion's coverage. For users who purchased their devices before this date, Assurant remains the device protection provider. The Google Fi app allows users to check their active device protection enrollments and their device protection provider [1].

These updates to Google Fi's device protection policy reflect a broader trend in the mobile industry towards enhanced device coverage and more comprehensive insurance options. As consumers become more reliant on their mobile devices, the demand for robust protection plans is growing, and companies like Google Fi are responding by offering more comprehensive and flexible coverage options.
