With all precincts reporting, Gonzales led by approximately 400 votes, a margin narrow enough to allow for a potential recount request, though Herrera has indicated acceptance of the results.

Gonzales will now face Democrat Santos Limon in the November general election. The 23rd District, which spans from San Antonio to El Paso and includes portions of the U.S.-Mexico border, has historically favored moderates but has become more Republican-leaning following redistricting. Republican-aligned super PACs have reserved significant advertising budgets for the general election, signaling confidence in the district's leanings.
