- Fomo overtook Axiom and GMGN as Solana's second-largest trading terminal, generating $437,000-$474,000 daily revenue in August 2026.

- Fomo's social-first design and AppleAAPL-- Pay integration enabled 68,000 new crypto users, contrasting Axiom's speed-focused SolanaSOL-- dominance and GMGN's BNBBNB-- Chain reliance.

- Axiom faces risks from Solana concentration (99% revenue) and governance scandals, while GMGN struggles with first-mile onboarding challenges.

- The memecoin terminal market now prioritizes fiat onramps and social distribution over execution speed, reshaping crypto access for casual users.

GMGN didn't overtake Axiom. According to DeFiLlama's snapshot, Axiom's daily revenue was $559,394 and its cumulative revenue exceeded $450 million. GMGN, by contrast, posted roughly $140,000 in daily revenue and $127 million in cumulative revenue. The gap between them is wide, not closing.

What actually happened - and what's far more interesting - is that a third platform, Fomo, has done both of them in. Fomo overtook Axiom in daily SolanaSOL-- trading volume in early August 2026, and also climbed past GMGN to take second place in trading terminal revenue. Fomo's daily revenue surged to between $437,000 and $474,000 in the three days ending August 5, up from roughly $224,000 the week before.

The GMGN-versus-Axiom comparison points to the wrong frame. The story isn't about who has the fastest execution or which bot snipes better. It's about a shift in who controls the gate through which casual users enter onchain speculation - and what that gate looks like.

Speed versus social

To understand why this matters, it helps to clarify what these platforms actually are. They're not exchanges in the traditional sense. They're trading terminals - interfaces that aggregate liquidity across decentralized exchanges, let users swap tokens with minimal friction, and collect a fee on every trade. They don't hold your assets. They route them. The money they make is a percentage of the volume that passes through their pipes.

Axiom built its dominance by being the fastest pipe. Launched in 2024 by two 22-year-old Y Combinator founders with a $500,000 seed check, it became the go-to terminal for speed. Sub-400-millisecond execution, reliable sniping of new token launches, MEV (maximal extractable value - the profit miners or bots make by reordering transactions) protection. By April 2025, Axiom accounted for anywhere between 30% and 72% of all meme trading volume on Solana. By October 2025, it had reached $300 million in cumulative revenue in just 263 days - the fastest any crypto application had done so.

Axiom was also the third most profitable platform in all of DeFi, behind only Tether and Circle. This is worth sitting with for a moment: a browser-based Solana trading terminal, run by two young founders and a tiny team, generating more retained revenue than almost every lending protocol, DEX, and yield platform.

Fomo took the opposite approach. It's a mobile-first app built around a social feed. Traders follow wallets they trust, watch real-time transactions in a stream, and trade from an interface that feels closer to TikTok than a Bloomberg terminal. It supports Solana, Base, BNB Chain, and Monad, with unified balances and gasless swaps. And crucially, it integrated Apple Pay through Crossmint, allowing users to buy tokens with a card - no wallet setup, no seed phrases, no bridging.

That Apple Pay onboarding alone brought in more than 68,000 first-time crypto buyers with no prior on-chain history, generating roughly $25 million in volume from that cohort. Fomo now has over 625,000 users and $2.5 billion in cumulative Solana volume. It closed a $75 million Series B in June 2026 at a $550 million valuation, led by Index Ventures.

The real question is onboarding

The reason Fomo's overtake is structural - not just a single-day volume blip - is what it does to the onboarding funnel. Axiom's users are already onchain. They know how to manage wallets, approve transactions, deal with gas. Fomo's Apple Pay integration means you can discover a trending memecoinMEME-- and buy it in the same motion as ordering a coffee. That is a fundamentally different growth mechanism.

It's also why GMGN, despite being a genuinely capable multi-chain analysis and trading tool, is losing ground. GMGN's revenue is now dominated by BNB Chain - roughly $107,000 of its $141,000 daily revenue comes from BSC, versus just $34,000 from Solana. It's a solid tool for people who already trade. It doesn't solve the first-mile problem of getting money onchain in the way Fomo does.

What Axiom faces

Axiom isn't standing still. Its daily active trader count grew 48% over four weeks in July and August, from roughly 32,000 to over 47,000. But Axiom faces a structural question that has nothing to do with whether its execution is still the fastest: it is overwhelmingly concentrated on Solana. More than 99% of its revenue comes from that single chain. If memeMEME-- trading activity fragments across Base, Monad, or elsewhere, Axiom's routing doesn't naturally follow.

There's also the governance question that surfaced earlier this year. Blockchain investigator ZachXBT exposed in February 2026 that a senior Axiom employee had been using internal tools to surveil users' wallets - looking up addresses, compiling spreadsheets of influencers, discussing how to scale monitoring "so it does not look that suspicious." Axiom confirmed the misconduct. The allegation of insider trading remains unproven, but the surveillance itself reveals something about how these platforms grow: enormous revenue with surprisingly thin internal controls.

Axiom reached $100 million in cumulative revenue faster than any company in Y Combinator's 20-year history, faster than the AI coding tool Cursor. It also operated with access controls that a $10 million traditional fintech would consider table stakes. That is not a coincidence. It is the predictable result of a growth model that prioritizes speed to market over institutional hygiene - a tradeoff that may become harder to sustain as these platforms approach the kind of revenue that attracts regulatory attention.

What this says about the memecoin terminal business

The broader pattern here is worth stepping back to consider. These trading terminals are among the most profitable businesses in crypto right now, and they profit from a market that most participants lose money in. Most memecoins trend to zero. The platforms don't care. They collect fees on both sides of the trade.

This is not inherently predatory - every exchange operates on this model. But it does mean the terminal with the largest and cheapest user base will win, and Fomo's onboarding approach is demonstrably cheaper and wider-reaching than Axiom's speed-first model or GMGN's analytics-first approach.

The question going forward isn't whether Axiom remains a dominant force. It is whether the memecoin terminal market rewards infrastructure - execution speed, reliability, MEV protection - or distribution - social feeds, fiat onramps, mobile design, multi-chain reach. Fomo's ascent suggests the answer is increasingly the latter.

What to watch: whether Fomo's multi-chain expansion sustains as meme activity rotates between Solana, Base, and newer networks like Monad; whether Axiom broadens beyond its Solana concentration or doubles down on being the best router for the chain that still hosts the most speculative volume; and whether the kind of governance failure at Axiom becomes a template risk for other fast-growing terminal operators that have built revenue faster than they built internal controls.
