General Motors has eliminated over 700 direct jobs and hundreds more at supply chain companies at its Oshawa Assembly Complex in Ontario, Canada. The job cuts come despite the company reporting $12 billion in pre-tax earnings for 2025 and plans to boost shareholder earnings through dividend increases and a $6 billion share buyback. Unifor union president Lana Payne criticized GM for caving to U.S. pressure and diminishing its production footprint in Canada.
