General Motors (GM.US) is facing a massive class action lawsuit in Australia due to issues with the Holden transmission.
Australian law firm Maurice Blackburn has filed a class action lawsuit against General Motors' (GM.US) local subsidiary, alleging defects in the transmission systems of certain models of its discontinued Holden brand. The lawsuit involves consumers who purchased these models between January 1, 2011, and December 24, 2024.
Maurice Blackburn said the transmission defects caused a variety of issues, including intermittent transmission shudder and automatic transmission fluid leaks. The law firm also noted that General Motors failed to meet the acceptable quality assurance under the Australian Consumer Law and engaged in misleading and deceptive conduct.
General Motors has yet to comment on the lawsuit.
It is noteworthy that General Motors discontinued its Holden brand in 2021 due to plummeting sales, making it no longer reasonable to continue investing in right-hand drive vehicles.
The class action lawsuit aims to seek damages and losses for affected consumers. At present, Maurice Blackburn has not disclosed the specific number of affected vehicles and details of the claims.
