Gemini, a major US cryptocurrency exchange, has announced its XRP credit card, offering 4% cash back on gas, EV charging, and public transport. The community is unimpressed, feeling that the card does not bring anything new apart from the "XRP" logo. The exchange chose XRP due to its massive gains over the past year, with $73,700 in rewards turning into $407,000. The new card aims to make crypto "simple" and "approachable."

Gemini, a prominent US cryptocurrency exchange, has introduced a new credit card in collaboration with Ripple, featuring XRP as the primary reward currency. The Gemini XRP Credit Card offers up to 4% cash back on gas, EV charging, and public transport, along with other benefits such as no annual fees and no crypto rewards delivery fees. However, the community's response has been lukewarm, with many users feeling that the card does not bring significant new features beyond the "XRP" logo.

The card's design is intended to capitalize on the recent surge in XRP's value. Between October 2021 and July 2025, users who held XRP rewards for at least a year saw their returns increase by over 450%. This growth, from $73,700 in rewards to $407,000, has been cited as a key reason for Gemini's decision to focus on XRP [1].

Gemini's CEO, Tyler Winklevoss, described the card as a "bridge to the future of finance," aiming to make crypto more accessible and practical for everyday use. Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, echoed this sentiment, noting that the card provides a simple entry point into digital assets for the growing number of Americans who own crypto [2].

However, some users have expressed skepticism, arguing that the card does not offer anything new beyond the XRP rewards. The card's 4% cash back rate on certain categories is not significantly higher than what is offered by traditional credit cards, and the lack of additional unique features has led to a lukewarm reception.

Despite the mixed reception, Gemini's move to expand its XRP offerings aligns with the broader trend of increasing institutional adoption of cryptocurrencies. The XRP Ledger (XRPL) has seen growing support from financial institutions, including Société Générale–Forge, Guggenheim Treasury Services, and Brazil's Braza Bank [2].
