Gemini Rolls Out Temporary Chat Feature

Gemini app introduces "Temporary chat" feature, allowing users to send messages without being saved in Recent Chats or used for personalization. The feature is available for personal users and not work or school accounts. Temporary chats are saved for 72 hours, and users can't access them after leaving the conversation. The feature doesn't support Gems, connected apps, personalized responses, saving information, or giving feedback.

In a strategic move aimed at boosting user acquisition and engagement, Google has announced a weekend promotion offering free access to its Veo 3 AI video generation tool. This feature, typically reserved for paying subscribers of the Google AI Ultra plan and later extended to the $20/month AI Pro tier, will be available to all users of the Gemini app, including non-paying customers, from Friday, August 23, to Sunday, August 24, at 10 PM PT. The promotion allows users to generate up to three videos using Veo 3 Fast (Preview) through both the Gemini mobile app and web interface (gemini.google.com) [1].

Veo 3, Google's latest video generation model, enables users to create 8-second clips that include sound by describing a scene and adding details such as visual style and background music. The free access grants users the ability to use Veo 3 Fast, which is twice as fast in generating videos while maintaining a 720p resolution [2].

This weekend promotion serves multiple purposes for Google. It aims to attract new users to its AI services, potentially convert free users to paying subscribers, and help Google compete with other AI companies in the rapidly evolving field of generative AI [1]. However, the tool comes with safety measures to address potential misuse, such as a SynthID digital watermark and a visible Veo watermark on each generated video [1].

Google's broader strategy to integrate AI capabilities across its product ecosystem is evident in this promotion. Recent reports suggest that Google TV and Android Auto could receive Gemini support in the coming weeks, further expanding the reach of Google's AI technologies [1].
