Geely Automobile Holdings, the Chinese automaker behind the UK-based luxury sports car brand Lotus, has appointed a new president for its Chinese arm to strengthen its global presence and expand its product portfolio [1]. Qin Peiji, the former chief operating officer (COO) of Geely's joint venture with Swedish electric vehicle (EV) brand Polestar Technology, will now lead Lotus Cars' operations in China.
Qin Peiji's appointment comes as Geely aims to enhance the synergy between Lotus's China operations and its global strategy [1]. With extensive experience in the Chinese automotive industry, having worked at the local sales unit of Volvo Cars since 2011, Qin will oversee the development and sales of Lotus Cars in China.
Lotus Cars, acquired by Geely in 2017, faces challenges in the Chinese market, particularly in its electrification path in the ultra-luxury segment and competition from new players like Xiaomi [1]. To address these challenges, Polestar Tech, the joint venture of Geely's Swedish EV brand Polestar and handset vendor Xingji Meizu, oversees Lotus's business in China [1].
Geely's current President and CEO, An Conghui, has a proven track record of driving growth and success within the company [2]. Having joined Geely in 1996, he has held various key positions, including Chief Engineer, General Manager, Vice President, and President. During his tenure as President and CEO of Geely Auto Group from 2011 to 2021, An Conghui led the company to achieve remarkable results.
With the appointment of Qin Peiji, Geely is poised to leverage his expertise and experience to further expand Lotus Cars' presence in the Chinese market and strengthen its global position in the luxury sports car segment.
