GE Aerospace Workers at Evendale Facility Plan to Strike from Thursday

UAW members at GE's Evendale facility will go on strike from Thursday. GE Aerospace is a diversified group with three areas of activity: jet engine manufacturing, aircraft engine and avionics system manufacturing, and other. Net sales are distributed across the United States, America, Europe, Middle East and Africa, China, and Asia.

Evendale, Ohio — Union workers at GE Aerospace's Evendale facility are set to go on strike beginning Thursday, following a dispute over job security, health benefits, and time off. The strike, authorized by 84 percent of GE Aerospace workers represented by UAW Local 647, is a result of ongoing negotiations between the company and the United Auto Workers (UAW).

The workers' contract was set to expire at 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday night, but talks have not yet yielded a satisfactory agreement. Key sticking points include job security, healthcare costs, and time off. UAW president Shawn Fain announced late Wednesday night that union workers will be going on strike, beginning at midnight on Thursday.

The UAW represents about 640 employees at the Evendale and Erlanger plants, out of around 9,000 in the Greater Cincinnati area. The union has cited GE's record profits, surpassing $17 billion from 2022-24, as a reason for the strike. GE Aerospace has stated that negotiations with the UAW began on July 31 and that the company is continuing to engage in good-faith negotiations.

Meanwhile, GE Aerospace has been undergoing significant strategic rebalancing. Institutional investors, including Vanguard and Caisse, have increased their holdings in the company, signaling confidence in its pivot towards sustainable aviation and defense propulsion. GE Aerospace's Q1 2025 results showed $12.3 billion in orders and $2.2 billion in profit, driven by a $175 billion backlog and efficient capital allocation [3].

The strike, which will impact hundreds of workers, highlights the ongoing tension between labor and management in the aerospace industry. As negotiations continue, both parties are expected to remain in dialogue to reach a mutually acceptable agreement.
